The Alibi’ is the name of a former bar once situated in the old building in the bottom left of the painting. It has a new neighbour in the form of a modern block of flats, sailing in like a ship to disrupt the comfort of old certainties. The crane is re-imagined as a giant hammer and invites the viewer to consider both the light and dark elements of what we call progress.
‘Alibi’ forms part of my ‘Dreams’ collection which explores and exaggerates the psychological influence of both built and natural structures on our moods and perceptions.
By distorting and altering both the colour and form of my observations I encourage my viewers to look in a new way at familiar landmarks with a surreal understanding.
Both prints and greetings cards are available featuring this design.
